How Rooms works
A room is a live document you write and review with others in real time: rich text or Markdown, comments, images and Mermaid diagrams that render in the browser. Create a room, then share the invite link — it carries the key that decrypts the document.
Edits travel between participants' browsers over encrypted WebRTC connections. DocuChan's server only helps people find each other and never receives document contents, comments or the room key. When a direct path is blocked, an encrypted relay can carry the traffic without being able to read it.
There is no server copy or backup. Each browser can keep a local recovery copy so an accidentally closed tab can be reopened, and you can delete it at any time. Lock a room to approve each new participant, and export the document when you are done.
Questions about Rooms
Where is the document stored?
Only in the browsers of the people in the room, plus any local recovery copy they keep. DocuChan stores no copy of the document.
Can I get a room back if I lose the link?
Only from a browser that kept local recovery data for it. DocuChan cannot recover a lost room or its key.
Who can join a room?
Anyone with the complete invite link. Lock the room to require your approval before someone new can connect.
