How to add page numbers to a PDF

  2. Pick a position, a format such as “3 / 9”, and the first number. Skip the cover page if you like.

  3. Add the numbers, check the pages, and save the PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Can I leave the cover page without a number?

Yes. Turn on “Skip the first page” and numbering starts on page two. Choose any first number, for example 1 or 5.

What if some pages are turned sideways?

Numbers are placed the way each page is read, so a landscape or rotated page gets its number at the bottom of what you see, not along the side.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and changed by code running in this browser tab. The tools page blocks network connections for file processing, so the document, its pages, and any password you type stay on your device.

How large can the PDF be?

Up to 150 MB per file, 300 MB in total when you work with several files, and 500 pages. Very large or complex documents also depend on your device’s memory.

Is it free?

Yes. The PDF tools are free to use, need no account, and add no watermark.
